Project Red Dress 2012

7 Feb

On Friday February 3rd, I attended Project Red Dress 2012 at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel. Twelve different designers showed off their design for a red dress. The designers were from various schools, such as the Art Institute of Seattle, New York Fashion Academy, Seattle Pacific University and more. The winner with the best red dress, won a scholarship, judged by a panel of judges, who are deemed savvy in the fashion industry. The Seattle Magazine and Seattle Bride Magazine’s Fashion Editor, Macy’s Vice President Store Manager, were some of the judges.

The dresses were modeled by many stunning influential Seattleites while the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra performed. My favorite was #1 with its cutting edge sassy backless dress with a short frilly front.

The winner ended up being Corban Harper with his elegant gown modeled by Miss Washington. The People’s Choice award went to Julius Leano.

This event raised money and awareness for the American Heart Association. The event was produced by Monir Zandghereishi and directed by the Metropolitan Fashion Week. The host was Jim Dever, reporter for Evening Magazine.

Indulgence New Year’s Eve Bash at the EMP

8 Jan

I recently kicked off my New Years Eve at the EMP. The sold-out bash had 3000 attendees fill the space. There was a live band playing all the latest hits at the Sky Church stage. My favorites were their renditions of Lady Gaga and Pink. Movin’ 92.5 also had a room where their DJ was spinning live. For the 80s lovers, there was a stage playing 80s hits.

There was even a comedy show, but I didn’t get a chance to check it out. I did take a stroll through the Avatar movie exhibit, where you can be in your own scene from the movie. There were about 25 different cash bars with reasonably priced drinks. Also, if you downloaded a app, you got a free hot dog from Pop Kitchen and Bar. 92.5 had a photo booth set up and your pic was instantly available for download from their site.

It was a great event to dance the night away and ring in the New Year with your friends (party favors provided). Some of the sponsors were Pop chips, Xfinity, Fuze, Google Places, and Movin 92.5.

Holiday Bazaar

8 Nov

Saturday, November 5th was Bellevue Club’s Holiday Bazaar. The gym, ballroom and hallways were filled with over 100 different vendors, showcasing the finest arts and crafts, giving one a special appreciation for the people behind these creative products. There was something for everyone.

Gourmet Blends had samples of the finest balsamic vinegars and oils from Italy, while Deluxe Foods gave you a taste of their homeade jams. Dining-in-Seattle was on hand with their cookbook filled with some of Seattle’s best dining out recipes. Vue Society had fashion savvy women’s clothing for purchase. My favorite vendor was the Pixie Dolls. A perfect gift idea for the little ones.

Who could forget the jewelery on display from Stella and Dot, Deer in a Bottle, and many many more. There was also free gift wrapping, complimentary cocoa, holiday carols, and a craft table for the kids.

Danny Woo Garden

20 Aug

On July 16, 2011, I helped serve food to hundreds of residents from the International District at the Danny Woo Garden. This garden is the “largest green space” in the International District. It serves as a community garden for residents, who plant many summer veges and flowers.

It was great to see so many people from the community come together for the annual potluck and to get a taste of the pig, which was roasted the night before.

What a great event! Seeing a community of people being brought together to celebrate their culture and I got to be a part of it. I even served food next to rep. Jay Inslee who is running for governor.
